Two dates, one standard: 1969 and 2007
Digby Freight Services started the standard in 1969. DFS Consulting LLC put it to work as advice in 2007. Here's how one became the other.
Digby Freight Services, founded 1969
Digby's uncle, Digby Robert, started Digby Freight Services in 1969 with a single Ford box truck, painted orange, with a promise stenciled on the side: Dependable. Friendly. Services.
It wasn't a slogan someone workshopped. It was the whole business plan. Show up when you say you will. Treat every customer like the relationship matters more than the invoice. Digby remembers riding along on the truck as a boy, watching his uncle keep that promise to shopkeepers and warehouse managers who had no reason to expect it from a small operator.
That small operator built a following because of it. Long before "customer experience" was a phrase anyone used, DFS was living it, one delivery at a time.
The path from 1969 to today
Digby Freight Services is founded
Digby Robert starts the business with one truck and a promise: dependable, friendly service. It becomes the model for how the family thinks about work.
Digby R. Kerr grows up around freight
Childhood afternoons spent around trucks, warehouses, and customers teach lessons no classroom could: reliability compounds, and people remember who kept their word.
Wharton, then the wider world of logistics
Digby earns his BA and MBA at Wharton and moves into logistics leadership, carrying the DFS standard into a much larger arena.
DFS Consulting LLC is founded
Digby forms DFS Consulting in recognition of his uncle's business and the standard it set, turning that heritage into consulting work for logistics leaders.
Fifteen years leading global logistics
Digby builds and leads a global logistics company for fifteen years, then serves as VP of another. He now advises executives, brokers, and teams through DFS Consulting and mentors through Kerr University.
Why the name stays on the door
People sometimes ask why a consulting firm carries the initials of a company that stopped running trucks decades ago. The honest answer is that the trucks were never really the point. The point was a standard: be the operator people can count on, even when nobody's checking.
That standard is what I bring into every DFS Consulting engagement now, whether the conversation is about a rate strategy, a team that's struggling, or a business a founder is trying to decide whether to grow or sell. I've built and led logistics companies myself. I know what it costs to get the details wrong, and what it's worth to get them right.
